This sculpture was inspired by an article that I read in the science section of the New York Times, entitled “The Owl Comes Into Its’ Own”. There was a photograph of a researcher holding an owl called Blakiston’s Fish Owl. The bird was huge (not as big as my sculpture!), measuring about two feet high, and the feathers were really long and beautiful, reminding me of impressionist brush strokes. So, even though I frequently make abstract expressionist pieces, I really felt compelled to make Owl Art, with a strong emphasis on the feathers. The glass eyes are also really compelling, and they get a great reaction from my audience.
